Tue 14th March 2017 Lunar’s Landstar RLS has been crowned ‘Best Van Conversion’ at the 2017 Motorhome Design Awards run by The Caravan & Motorhome Club*. The premium two-berth motorhome scored ‘best in class’ in the category of van conversions priced over £59k; a tough grouping with the Landstar up against the crème de la crème of conversions and judges demanding entrants deliver the ultimate in luxury, comfort, style and specification. The Mercedes based Landstar came into the awards with excellent credentials having previously received the ‘Best Van Conversion’ and ‘Best Motor Caravan of the Year’ accolades in The Club’s Design & Drive Awards when it was first launched in 2015. The 2017 model has evolved since it’s first incarnation and is now only available as the super luxurious ‘S’ model but with the choice of either a rear lounge (RLS) or an end washroom layout (EWS). This allows the Landstar to offer even more luxury as standard and refinements include the addition of smart new exterior graphics, a wider choice of colours, an electric sliding door, Thule roll out canopy awning and a roof-mounted solar panel. The Landstar enjoys a powerful 316 CDI (160ps) Mercedes Sprinter engine for a premium driving experience aided by Tempmatic air conditioning, front and rear parking sensors and electric heated adjustable mirrors as well as daytime running lights, crosswind assist, cruise control, Bluetooth, an MP3 player and an anti theft protection package. Inside, the occupants can enjoy all the comforts of home with a domestic style kitchen including a four-burner hob, separate oven and grill, microwave and 90l Dometic fridge with freezer compartment plus Aqua Clean upholstery with leatherette finishes, LED lighting, USB charger sockets, chrome finish electrical sockets, an Avtex HD TV/DVD system, a wood effect vinyl floor with removable luxury pile carpets and much, much more. Says Lunar CEO and Chairman, Brian Mellor, “It feels fantastic to be back at the Awards claiming another coveted accolade from The Club for our Landstar. When we first rolled out a special edition model we were confident there was an appetite for a premium quality van conversion but the positive consumer response was beyond even our optimistic expectations. “For 2017, we took the decision to focus our efforts on delivering the most luxurious, most high spec van conversion we could craft. This award, handed to us after deliberation and critique by the most informed and discerning judges in the industry, makes us feel satisfied that we achieved our goal,” he adds.
