Following a welcome return to the motor caravan market, Lunar is celebrating a triple award win at The Caravan Club Design and Drive Awards, which took place on Monday 19th May.

The Lunar Landstar RL, an elegant two-berth motorhome on a prestigious Mercedes base, scooped top prize in the ‘Van Conversions Priced £40k-£50k’ category and went on to secure the coveted ‘Motor Caravan’ of the year competition – the first time a van conversion has claimed this title.

The Lunar Camper Car, a versatile 2-plus-2 berth camper and everyday family car crafted within a Nissan NV200 secured the top spot in the ‘Micro Motor Caravan’ class, a new category for the 2014 awards.

The annual Caravan Club Design and Drive Competition sees leisure vehicles from a range of manufacturers judged by industry experts for their excellence in design, comfort and construction as well as their handling, including their reversing and manoeuvrability.

Judges praised the Landstar RL as ‘long, lean and classy’, ‘nice to drive, quiet (with) good performance’ and marked it highly for ride quality and stability at high speeds. Lunar’s remarkable attention to detail was also commended, along with it’s warranty terms and the quality of the information provided to customers on the website and in the Landstar RL’s handbook.

Value for money was also considered, with judges commenting that the Landstar delivered ‘a great deal of Mercedes motorhome at a realistic price’. One judge summed up his appreciation for the Landstar by claiming to be ‘over the moon with this one’. Judges were equally complimentary about the Lunar Camper Car, describing it as a ‘nice looking motor’ with a ‘good Lunar/Nissan finish’ and that it’s ‘small size makes it easy to drive and manoeuvre’.

Commenting on Lunar’s excellent performance at this year’s Design and Drive Awards, Lunar Chairman and CEO Brian Mellor said; “When we returned to the motorhome market, we wanted to deliver a choice of new and innovative vehicles that looked fantastic, offered versatile and comfortable accommodation and that were easy to drive.

That both the Landstar and the Camper Car have been voted ‘best in class’ in such a coveted and competitive awards ceremony is testament to the care and attention to detail investment by our design and production teams. We are particularly proud that the Lunar Landstar RL is the first van conversion to have ever claimed the title of 'Motor Caravan of the year'.
