Behind the Scenes
The engine room of Lunar’s operations is in the factory where all the designs are taken through to the end product by a highly qualified, experienced and skilful workforce of fitters, installers and skilled craftsmen.
Projects Manager, Chris Talbot, whose father co-founded Lunar back in 1969, talks us through the process of making a Lunar caravan and motorhome
“It’s a 17 stage process that our team goes through to ensure each and every Lunar model is built to specification. From taking the drawings and cutting list from the design team, our teams of specialists work on a specific area, whether it be machining, assembly, roofing, interior, exterior, electrics, gas/water and a final inspection,” said Chris, who has worked at Lunar since 1982.
“The raw materials we use allow us to build the lightweight caravans that make Lunar so famous. This means our caravans are lighter to pull, giving drivers an easy ride both on fuel consumption and the environment.
“Our recent investment in leading edge CNC machinery means we’re able to build our caravans with even greater accuracy and quality. Over the years, in response to customer feedback, we’ve added extras such as alloy wheels, AKS stabilisers and a new range of fabrics. We’re continually looking to enhance the build quality of our products, whilst paying stringent attention to health and safety regulations from the National Caravan Council.”
Our Craftsman and Designers
Behind all successful manufacturing companies lays the visionary and creative individuals who come up with the ideas and help translate them to reality. Lunar is no different in this regard and possesses a team of talented designers to plan, create and pour over intricate detail to ensure that every Lunar product meets and exceeds company and customer expectations.
Who better to explain the design philosophy of Lunar than the design team themselves:
"Lunar has prided itself on its innovative caravan and motorhome designs that are focussed on practically, style and safety plus an overriding objective of meeting the evolving needs of the customer in terms of layout, features and performance.
"We're always on the lookout for new ideas, feedback and inspiration to further enhance our designs, layouts and finishes. A lot of this comes from industry trends, customer dialogue and our own thoughts.
"Our designs are governed by practicality in that the products must be user-friendly and in the case of caravans, lightweight.
"We're also very aware of meeting current safety regulations and this along with our strong creative streak to produce innovative and practical designs keeps Lunar at the top of its game.
"Our CAD facilities and 3D drawing capability enables us to take potential into reality more quickly, accurately and stylishly than ever before. The end result being a superb range of touring caravans that meet and exceed customer expectations."
