Overview

Lunar are now celebrating their 40 Anniversary season. Since 1969 Lunar Caravans has produced high quality lightweight touring caravans. Initially from a range of just a couple of caravans in 1969 Lunar has expanded to now produce a collection of 24 models to choose from for the 2009 season.  Lunar also produce a range of luxury motorhomes from their factory in Preston and import European Champ, Premier and Pinnacle models into the UK.

On the 28 November 2007 a management buyout of Lunar Caravans Limited was finalised bringing Lunar back firmly into British hands. The buyout was led by Brian Mellor the company’s Managing Director and his aim was to release the company from its previous group ownership and allow the company’s management to have complete control of the running and direction of the company. Other members of the buyout include Andrew Mead (Finance Director), Martin Henderson (Sales and Marketing Director) and Ken Lawrence (Purchasing Director).

In 2000 Lunar was purchased from Brian Talbot and Ken Wilcock, the founders of Lunar Caravans by the Belgium based Tirus Group who already had a number of Caravan and manufacturing plants in Europe. Lunar remained under this ownership until the management buyout was secured. Now freed from its European shackles Lunar has already invested in new facilities and looks forward to many more years of successful manufacturing.

Brian Mellor says, “I feel the fact that Lunar Caravans is now back in British hands is a very positive thing for both the company and the UK caravan industry. The British caravanner has always had a desire to buy British made caravans due to the ability of UK manufacturers to tailor their products so specifically to the market”
