After 40 Years Touring, the Saturn Comes Home to Rest
Lunar Caravans have been reunited with one of their very first models, a 1969 Lunar Saturn. This compact two berth model has excitedly been identified as the third caravan to be made by Lunar founders, Brian Talbot and Ken Wilcock. Since being purchased from their small workshop in High Ince, Wigan, the Saturn has spent an amazing 40 years touring with the Doughill family from Bolton.
Following a difficult decision to finally retire from touring, Mr and Mrs Doughill contacted Lunar to see if they could provide a home for this 42 year old caravan which had become a real part of their family. Lunar were absolutely thrilled with this opportunity and are now looking forward to restoring it back to its original 1969 look.
Andy Jenkinson, who is a caravan expert, historian, author and journalist, commented;
“This is a fantastic example of a classic caravan from the 60's, and it proves that Lunars quality is long lasting too! The Lunar Saturn is in remarkable condition considering it is nearly 43 years old and was used by its last owners extensively in that time. Its good to that Lunar are keen to preserve the heritage of the company and also at the same time importantly-part of the UK caravan industry's history.”
